Giovanni D:tox System Purifying Facial Cleanser

Today I am going to review a face wash after a long time. This one is a facial cleanser from Giovanni, which is basically an American hair care brand. The products of this brand are known for being free of harmful chemicals and animal by-products. When their facial care range was launched in India, I was tempted to buy it. The D:tox facial cleanser is step 1 of the 3 steps range of face care product – cleanser-scrub-pack.

The Giovanni Rule of Balance – Make each product as pure and natural as possible without sacrificing exceptional product performance.

Price and Quantity: Rs. 495/- for 207ml

Shelf Life: 3 years

Color and Packaging: This face cleanser comes in an elongated transparent plastic tube with a flip cap. The cleanser is dark grey in color and is runny. The flip cap, however, prevents wastage and dispenses the right amount of product.

Ingredients: please see the pic below

About the Ingredients

Activated Charcoal is an amazing substance. Its use dates back to the early filters to remove impurities and odors and it is used to adsorb toxins from the skin. Like a magnet, activated charcoal dives deep into the pores to draw out toxins and impurities.
Volcanic Ash is not only an excellent deep cleanser but also a mild skin exfoliant. It comes from Strombolian Volcanoes. Volcanic Ash is actually Sodium Bentonite. Due to its unique molecular structure Sodium Bentonite has a huge surface area. When hydrated, it develops a negative charge, effectively becoming a magnet for positively charged toxins and impurities. It can adsorb up to 40 times its weight in toxins.
Antioxidants work by significantly slowing or preventing the oxidative – or damage from oxygen – process caused by substances called free radicals that can lead to cell dysfunction. With the body, the antioxidant process is similar to stopping an apple from browning. Once you cut an apple, it begins to brown, but if you dip it in orange juice, which contains vitamin C, it remains fresh and bright.
Acai is a Super-Antioxidant that contains nearly 10 times as many antioxidant vitamins as grapes and twice as many as blueberries.
Goji Berry is a Super Antioxidant with more antioxidant power than any other fruit, vegetable or food. It has been shown to have anti-aging properties.
Green Tea is a well-known antioxidant. Although many people are aware of the health benefits associated with drinking green tea, not as many are aware of the properties it exhibits when used in topical skin care preparations and cosmetics for protecting collagen from being broken down. It is a superior anti-aging ingredient.
Figs have the highest concentration of polyphenols among dried fruits. Compared with vitamins C and E, dried fruits have superior quality antioxidants and can enrich lipoproteins in plasma and protect them from subsequent oxidation. This makes figs a convenient and superior source of anti-aging potential.
My Experience with Giovanni D:tox System Purifying Facial Cleanser

This product is a superb cleanser. The activated carbon in the product helps leave the skin squeky clean without drying it. It has superb ingredients in the form of activated carbon. green tea, goji berry and figs which are known for their anti-oxidants properties. The face wash lathers up pretty well and also removes makeup effortlessly. Be cautious of the amount you discharge from the tube as not much is require for a single usage.

The first thing that had hit me was its fragrance. I quite did not like it but got used to it over a period of time. It smells weirdly for my nose. But other than this, it is a great product. It shall last long and is worth the price paid for it.

Availability may be a problem as I have not seen this product in departmental stores or malls. I bought this online through an e-commerce website and was also available on a discount then.

My Final Take: It is a good product and worth trying once. Price may be a deterrent for some. I am looking forward to trying Step 2 and 3 of this range.

Wow Supriya, thanks for telling about the new launch. Loved the way you have explained about each ingredient. I have used their hair serum and had also bought a hair spray which I didn't touch after first use because it smells like I have bathed in champagne and I don't want people to get ideas about me being drunk smelling so strong of alcohol 🙂

This one looks good. I was tempted to buy the 6-in-1 bamboo charcoal face product from Aroma Magic last year but the reviews said the charcoal particles get stuck in the skin, so I dropped it. I guess this one doesn't do that and rest of the ingredients are really nice. Sounds like a promising product.
